The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled NEET (UG) 2026, which was held on 3 May 2026, following concerns about the integrity of the examination process. The official announcement came after inputs were reviewed by central agencies and findings were shared by law enforcement authorities.
According to the official statement, the Government of India has approved the decision to re-conduct the examination on fresh dates. The updated dates will be announced soon.
NTA stated that the decision was taken after investigative findings suggested that the examination process “could not be allowed to stand.” The agency said the move was necessary to maintain transparency and protect the credibility of national entrance examinations.
The matter had earlier been referred to central agencies on 8 May 2026 for independent verification and necessary action. Following further review, the agency decided that cancelling the exam was in the best interest of students and the examination system.
The Government of India has also referred the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a detailed inquiry into the allegations linked to NEET (UG) 2026.
NTA confirmed that it will fully cooperate with the investigation and provide all necessary records and materials required by the agency.
Students will not have to register again for the re-examination. NTA has confirmed that all registration details, candidature information, and selected exam centres from the May 2026 cycle will remain valid for the fresh examination.
The agency also announced that no additional examination fee will be charged. Further details regarding revised exam dates and fresh admit cards will be released through official NTA channels in the coming days.
Furthermore, the NTA has urged candidates and parents to rely only on official announcements and avoid believing unverified information circulating on social media. The agency acknowledged the stress caused to students and stated that the decision was taken to protect long-term trust in the examination system.
The cancellation of NEET (UG) 2026 marks a major step toward protecting the credibility of India’s medical entrance system.
