Supreme Court Refuses NEET-PG Plea Seeking Postponement of Examination

While hearing the NEET-PG plea, the Supreme Court rejected the petition seeking postponement of the examination. The plea was heard by the bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. Emphasizing on the issue, the CJI states that we cannot risk the careers of around 2 lakh students.

CJI further stated- “As a matter of principle, we will not reschedule the exam. There are two lakh students and four lakh parents who will weep over the weekend if we postpone it. We cannot put the careers of so many candidates in jeopardy”

Originally, the NEET-PG 2024 was scheduled for 23rd July 2024, but due to alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG test that was held earlier this year. The petition contended that considering the high cost of travel and the unavailability of train tickets, the last-minute selection of exam locations caused turmoil and logistical disruptions for the applicants.

The petitioners also voiced serious concerns regarding the exam's two stages and the use of the normalization approach. The Supreme Court has admitted that normalization might not be the best course of action in response to these worries. The Indian Chief Justice went on to say that the relevant authorities might search for some workable solutions.
