SC issues notice on Foreign Medical Graduates

On April 1st, 2024, the Supreme Court issued a groundbreaking ruling regarding Foreign Medical Graduates, declaring, "Foreign Medical Graduates cannot be subjected to differential treatment." In this significant decision, the Court mandated that foreign medical graduates receive equal stipends comparable to their Indian counterparts.

Additionally, the Supreme Court directed the National Medical Council (NMC) to provide further details regarding the equal stipends for Foreign Medical Graduates, particularly in government medical colleges such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College in Vidisha, Dr. Laxmi Pandey Government Medical College in Ratlam, and Employee State Insurance Corporation Medical College in Alwar. This ruling followed a plea by a group of doctors highlighting instances where some medical colleges failed to provide stipends to foreign medical graduates during their internships.
