The National Testing Agency (NTA) has addressed the concerns raised by the NEET (UG) 2024 candidates in its latest Press Release. It states that the higher cutoffs and high scores this year are because of tougher competition and improvement in the performance of the students.
The minimum qualifying score for the unreserved category is 164 this year.
1563 students received compensatory marks due to time loss at some exam centers. These compensatory marks range from -20 to 720. The compensatory marks mechanism has been applied based on a Supreme Court ruling. It also explains students getting the scores of 718 and 719.
The NTA has also refused the claims that the integrity of exams was compromised. It has debunked the claims of paper leaks circulating on social media. However, it accepted that there were cases of impersonation at some centers. Cases against impersonators have already been registered by the NTA.
The number of test-takers increased from 2023, which partly explains the higher scores and cutoff.
The NTA has also stated that it has maintained transparency in all matters, leading to the announcement of results on 4th June. The result was released in 30 days and all the established procedures for sharing information with the candidates were followed.
