The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission has decided to plug a loophole exploited by some Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs). The notice states that the board had been identifying instances of FMGs acquiring fraudulent certificates claiming offline practical training to compensate for online theory classes.
“The medical profession deals with human lives,” stated UGMEB, emphasizing the importance of well-trained professionals. To address this concern, certificates substituting online theory with offline practical training will no longer be accepted.
FMGs who had any online classes during their studies will now face a longer internship. After passing the FMG Examination, they must complete a Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) lasting two to three years. This internship, following the notices of May 9th, 2023, and December 7th, 2023, will consist of repeated 12-month rotations. These stricter regulations aim to ensure that the FMGs possess the necessary practical skills before treating patients in India.
