NEET cutoff is the marks required to qualify for MBBS admission.
There are two cutoffs, a qualifying cutoff and an admission cutoff.
The qualifying cutoff is a general cutoff released by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is the minimum number of marks required to clear the NEET UG exam and become eligible for counseling. Qualifying cutoff does not guarantee admission.
The admission cutoffs are the minimum scores required for admission to particular colleges. Each college releases its admission cutoff, which depends upon the number of seats available, and the number of applicants.
Various factors determine the NEET cutoff each year. The number of candidates per seat is the most important factor determining the cutoff. The higher the ratio of the number of candidates to the number of available seats, the higher the cutoffs.
Difficulty levels of exams and students’ performance also impact the cutoffs. While difficulty is a subjective factor, student performance is calculated by the distribution of percentile scores. Better performance leads to higher cutoffs.
Changes to the reservation policy can also influence the NEET cutoffs. SC, ST, PwD, and PH are some of the reserved categories in NEET.
NEET’s tie-breaking method is crucial for resolving instances where two or more students achieve the same marks. It’s an unbiased and systematic way of ranking candidates with identical total scores in the NEET examination.
Here’s NEET’s tie-breaking method.
As per the speculations, the cutoffs for admission to government colleges will be slightly higher than the previous year. The cutoff for admission to government colleges is expected to be around 625 - 620 this year.
The rush for seats in government medical colleges is common. Usually, the publically funded medical and dental colleges are the first preference for students appearing in the NEET exam.
Guarantee of quality education, affordable fees, and better career prospects after graduating makes government colleges popular. However, because of limited seats and high application numbers, the cutoff of government medical colleges is high.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) releases the NEET cutoff for government medical and dental colleges.
The NEET cutoff for government medical colleges determines who will get admission through the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats and 85% State Quota Seats.
